I had read with a cast of comic relief the response of Senator Jide Ipinsagba through one of his handlers. On the issues of his failed deliverables and the ignoble representation of Ondo North. While the rebuttal is meant to be educative, the heading itself is laced in syntactic and semantics nakedness. An indication of the tutor needing enormous tutelage.
Let me, however, pardon the mannerisms in the construction and be intentional about learning something knew peradventure the senator has opened a new page to learn from his supposed bible and Quran - (The Constitution).
Fellow Citizens, the shock absorber, has failed to absorb this blatant misguided statement once more. Rather, a relic of rethorics laced in lamentations rather than addressing issues. For the sake of emphasis, the book of lamentations which Senator Ipinsagba through his aide wishes to sing has long been written before our forefathers, ours is no longer to lament but to read, understand and find way forward.
To set the records straight, the statement appears to be a personal attack on me, rather than a constructive deliverables of Senator Ipinsagba's role in security matters. For clarity and academic exercise, "The relevant section of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) that outlines the role of senator Ipinsagba in Section 48, which states that the National Assembly shall have the power to make laws for the peace, order, and good government of the Federation or any part thereof."
Emphasis on "PEACE and ORDER - and/or ANY PART THEREOF".
The aforementioned is a crystal clear indictment on the senator that he lacks even the understanding of the letters and spirits of the constitution. To worsen matters is that, while the senator enjoys the largesse of the office, he wishes to shy away from the responsibility that comes with it.
He enjoys the service of a constituency allowance and zonal intervention projects, wherein he and the contractors readily share monies meant for the execution of projects without implementation. A case of enjoying the dividends and running from the liabilities.
Let me further correct the senator and his team in vicariously alluding to the fallacy of argumentum ad hominem with the intent to detract from the main issues at hand. Furthermore, the claim that Senator Ipinsagba has supported regional security efforts and pressed for federal attention to local insecurities is not substantiated with evidence. A testament that the author wished the senator had done better but cannot take the embarrassment without distorting history. I call on Senator Ipinsagba to bring to forbearance his scorecard. The least of which is for him to have raised the issue on the floor of the senate.
It is important to note, that Senator Ipinsagba's statement on security responsibility is not necessarily incorrect, but it would be more productive to discuss the senator's actual role in enhancing local security rather than making personal attacks. Or absconding from his responsibility as a senator laying credence to, "I am a lawmaker" security concerns are not mine, even when he wishes to be addressed with the appelation of "Amotekun" before the Commander-in-Chief, President Tinubu. To whom a Senator of the federal republic had to be introduced - if not for his docility in the red chambers. Would it have been the same with Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, or even Senator Boroffice, that he is now claiming to have surpassed?
Senator Jide Ipinsagba's actions, or lack thereof, if evaluated based on his performance in the Senate, particularly in relation to security matters affecting Ondo North, he would hold a centennial record of crass failure. Or that his penchant for carting away monies meant for development alongside his contractors, would be a monumental historical reference deleting the memories of late dictator Sani Abacha.
Again, the statement's tone and language are also noteworthy, with phrases such as "civic illiteracy," "intellectual shallowness," and "youthful shenanigans." These phrases detract from the seriousness of the issue and undermine the credibility of the statement made by Senator Ipinsagba to defend his failure. A clear indication the senator is more interested in calling our youths by terrible names for being so audacious to call his bluff and give it the name it purely represents. "A collateral failure". However, there is still a chance to get it right, a chance to be more productive in the red chambers. A chance to indeed be the Amotekun Senator he wishes to be addressed as in truth and action.
In conclusion, while the senator's statement raises some valid points about the role of a senator, let me be clear, its ad hominem attacks and lack of evidence render it less effective in addressing the issue at hand. The senator can do better in actual performance and the impact of his actions on the people of Ondo North than mere rhetoric and lies.
